The Spanish Riding School

Riders and horses of the Lipizzan ballet of the Spanish Riding School train in the riding hall of the Imperial Palace in Vienna on June 25, 2009. The Spanish Riding School in Vienna is the only institution in the world which has practiced for over 430 years and continues to cultivate classical equitation in the Renaissance tradition. The hall was outfitted by baroque architect Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach between 1729 and 1735. It was originally built to provide aristocratic youths with the opportunity to take riding instruction.
